Analyst Andi Bushati declared on Thursday that Albania is the number one country in Europe at risk of money laundering.
Referring to the Global Initiative Against Organized Crime, Bushati said that around €1.6 billion are laundered through the construction industry in Albania.
The government is undertaking this initiative in order to launder dirty money under the guise of immigrants, Bushati said.
according to him, this is being done as the country is going through a crisis, that was not really caused by the government, but by other international factors, and it needs money at a time when the state budget is touching the bottom.
Bushati added that the last three fiscal amnesties in Albania did not yield any results, nor help formalize the economy.
According to analyst Baton Haxhiu, the fiscal amnesty threatens to create social injustices.
“The fiscal amnesty will also be for those who evaded taxes, and this might become an injustice for those who did pay taxes,” said Haxhiu
