For the third day in a row, the residents of the village of Rinas, where Albania’s main airport is located, took the streets to oppose a decision of the Road Authority.

The Road Authority decided on May 1 ago to make the road leading to the airport a one-way road due to high traffic congestion caused by the abolishment of pandemic-related measures.

However, residents urge against this decision as it adds several kilometers to their daily commute, such as going to work or taking their children to school.

On Wednesday morning they blockaded the way to the airport.

“No alternative route”

One of the residents Euronews Albania spoke to said the alternative route set by the Road Authority is damaged and filled with potholes.

“We will continue our protest with a blockade. We have permission from the police to protest until 12. Let the director of the Road Authority hear, or come here, and show us this alternative route. That route is old and full of potholes. It’s not a road”, said an angered resident.

“We didn’t take our children to school today. We’ve been driving 20 kilometers to go to work for the past two days”, complained another resident.
