Former Minister Lefter Koka has appealed one of the charges on his indictment in connection with the Fier waste incinerator.

The Special Appeal Court will convene a session on May 17 to review the request posed by the former environment minister sent to prison for corruption and abuse of office due to fraudulent procedures at the Fier and Elbasan incinerators.

Allegedly Koka earned €1.2 million from bribes, in exchange to allow for the construction of the incinerator of Fier. Apparently, a similar scheme was followed for the incinerator in Elbasan, where Koka is believed to have earned another €3.7 million.

The former minister is also charged with forgery as together with Socialist MP Alqi Bllako, are suspected to have altered the property documentation of the land where the Fier incinerator was built.
