Albania, as well as the region, possesses the capacity to attract more tourists, and with that comes increased revenue.
But in order to get to that point, neighboring countries need to ax a series of barriers, such as allowing free movement, positive advertising of the region’s image, but also abolishing roaming charges.
“The Western Balkans need to work harder and faster to exceed itself. Removing barriers is the first step in positioning the region on the global map of tourism. Dialogue with the European Union to reduce roaming tariffs begins on June 8”, said the General Secretary of the Regional Cooperation Council, Majlinda Bregu.
According to the Albanian Culture Minister, Mirela Kumbaro the government is incentivizing tourism investments through various aid packages, and simplified taxes.
Last year, the number of tourists visiting Albania grew by 114%, hitting the 7.2 million figure.
