‘We are lacking 116 prosecutors in our system due to vacancies”.
This is what Attorney General Olsian Cela said during a briefing at the High Prosecutorial Council.
“The current situation we’re faced with is this: We have 177 prosecutors in First Instance Courts or 110 fewer prosecutors due to vacancies, 16 prosecutors in prosecutions at the Appeals Court or 10 fewer prosecutors due to vacancies and 9 prosecutors at the General Prosecution or 8 fewer prosecutors due to vacancies. Compared to 2019, we’re missing 33.66% of our prosecutors,” – he added.
In 2021, none of the prosecutors were appointed in the justice system. A reason for this was the lack of a third magistrature year, where young prosecutors and judges graduate from.
Last year, 33 prosecutors were discharged from the justice system as a result of the vetting process.
