As recent price hikes caused financial hardships for many Albanian families, the state budget appears to have gotten the other side of the coin.

In four months only, the state budget cashed in nearly €180 million, or €35 million compared to this same period from last year.

Revenue collected from taxes and customs fees amounted to nearly 1.4 billion, with a sizable portion of this sum added up by VAT on imports, currently at 10% higher than last year.

Tax revenue was 26% higher than in 2021, with the state earnings from VAT only increasing by twofold from last year.

In addition, employees had to pay more for pension and healthcare contributions.

Governments and city halls maintained a tight hand when it comes to expenditures spending almost the same as last year.
