Even though no suspicious case of the monkeypox virus has been reported in Kosovo, the ministry of health and the National Public Health Institute, have drafted a document of recommendations and measures to help prevent the spread of the disease.

In a press statement, healthcare authorities have declared that the situation is being closely monitored.

The virus can’t be transmitted as easily as COVID-19. Experts believe that monkeypox can be spread through close skin contact with someone possessing active inflammation on their skin.

The first case of monkeypox was discovered in Europe on May 7, in an individual traveling from Nigeria to England.

So far, there have been over 100 confirmed cases in 5 European countries, in the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and Italy.
