The General Prosecution Office will spend €550,000 to maintain the surveillance system in the upcoming three years.

The winning bidder was the Italian company ‘IPS spa Italia’, while the details of this private contractor have yet to be revealed.

But this is only the partial sum that Albanian citizens will have to pay to surveil their prosecutors.

The Special Prosecution has a single surveillance office, meanwhile the tender was issued by the institution itself.

Based on 2021 official data from the Prosecution Office, around 2,200 people were surveilled after allegedly being involved in various criminal offenses.

While SPAK has surveilled 1,500 people.

Communications coming from some 2,000 SIM cards have passed through the filter of surveilling officers.

A majority of them (over 900) were put under surveillance amid suspicions that they were involved in organized crime groups, while another 850 were for corruption.
