Montenegro’s PM Dritan Abazovic has confirmed his country’s participation in the upcoming meeting of the Open Balkan initiative, set to take place this June in Ohrid, North Macedonia.
During an activity that took place today in Podgorica, Abazovic said that although Montenegro hasn’t joined this initiative in the past, it has attended meetings as an observer.
During a meeting of the Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the Serbian president, Alexandar Vucic, invited Abazovic to join the next meeting of the regional initiative.
The Open Balkan initiative is a continuation of the Balkan mini-Schengen project presented in Novi Sad, Serbia on October 10, 2019, by leaders of Serbia, North Macedonia, and Albania.
At the time, Montenegro was governed by the Democratic Socialist Party (DPS) which at the time, didn’t agree to participate along with the 3 above-mentioned Balkan countries.
Likewise, Kosovo and Bosnia, and Hercegovina didn’t support this initiative and continue to hold the same stance to this day.
