The head of CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi made a request, during a meeting of the Commission of Laws, directed at Albanian legislators.

Celibashi asked that during the upcoming amendments to the Electoral Code, the possibility, of counting ballots and publishing final results at voting stations, without moving boxes from voting stations should be considered– a practice that was common before 2001.

This change, according to Celibashi, could be implemented now that certain improvements have been made in regards to the security of the overall process.

“We need to reconsider the procedures of counting and establishing the final results of an electoral process. We could consider the variant of counting ballots and publishing the final result at the voting stations, especially now that we have made several improvements in regards to the overall security of the process,” – said Celibashi.

In addition, Celibashi pointed out the need for more clarity and transparency when it comes to the publication of pollical parties’ campaign funding as well as the extent of using public resources for electoral campaigns.

According to the head of CEC, in the upcoming elections, it will be necessary to spread electronic voting in additional voting stations.
