During his interview on Euronews Albania ‘Today’, the president of CRCA (Center for the Protection of Children’s Rights in Albania), Altin Hazizaj, said that the forms of abuse against children are varied.

According to Hazizaj, during the pandemic, CRCA carried out a poll with citizens in Albania which contained 11 questions.

The aim was to try and understand whether or not our communities are able to recognize sexual abuse and whether they would react when met with instances of it.

Based on the results, Hazizaj said that children don’t tell their parents if they experience sexual abuse out of fear, which is one of the main reasons why cases go unnoticed.

In addition, he said that children retain their traumas and usually resort to sharing them with their friends, instead of their families, which could also risk having an adverse effect.

Hazizaj also noted that 1 in 2 children in Albania is unfortunately a victim of physical violence in their families.
