The Special Court sentenced the former director of the National Radio Television (RTSH), Thoma Gellci to 1 year and 4 months in prison.

Gellci was charged with abuse of power in connection to a $1-million-dollar tender executed at RTSH during the time it was under his direction.

Meanwhile, the members of the Bid Evaluating Commission, Julian Tapia, Alban Malaveci and Ervin Muraj, are being accused of violating the tender rules of fair race.

Based on the prosecution’s investigations, Gellci seems to have started procedures regarding this tender without prior approval from the Audiovisual Media Authority, which had previously refused to shut down the RTSH Children’s Channel and its exchange for the RTSH Agro Channel.

Gellci is also being accused of favoring the tender winning firm by extending its deadline for submitting the necessary products and documentation.

In addition, Gellci’s defense attorney spoke about a possible set-up of the entire situation which was allegedly aimed at stopping his client from being re-elected as RTSH’s director for a second term.

The former RTSH director was arrested on October 8 during a SPAK-ordered operation in collaboration with the State Police.
