There’s no sense as to why the Democratic Party should participate in the presidential voting session seeing that it was excluded from the process entirely.

This is what DP’s caucus leader, Enkelejd Alibeaj said during communication with the press.

“We’ve reached a moment when Albanians should have known who their president should be. Our stance is that tomorrow, there’s no sense for DP to participate in the voting process. It was obvious that Rama has no goal of giving Albanians the president they deserve as prescribed by the Constitution,” – said Alibeaj.

Immediately after this declaration came the reaction of SP’s caucus leader Taulant Balla, through a status posted on his Facebook page.

“Boycotting never benefits anyone; it is simply an insult and disregard for the delegation of voter’s sovereignty,” – wrote Balla amongst other things.

The Socialist Party’s leadership will be convening today at 17:00 to discuss the presidential nominees set to be voted this weekend.

The first 3 rounds of voting for the election of the new head of state failed, after the ruling majority and the opposition didn’t reach an agreement and failed to present any presidential nominees.

The fourth round will be held tomorrow and the Socialist majority will be able to choose the president without the help of the opposition as they already possess the minimum 71 votes needed to elect the president in this round.
