A few hours away from being voted by the parliament as the potential new president, Bajram Begaj shared a message to the public where among other things he announced his resignation as General Commander of the Armed Forces.

While excusing himself for ‘not being very good with the words’ and calling for the comprehension of the media on this party, Begaj highlighted what will be his priorities, if elected.

“If the Albanian Parliament decides that I will be Albania’s next President of the Republic, mutual respect for one another and love of the homeland will be my compass arrows”.

“Unconditional respect for all Albanians, regardless of their religion, province, or beliefs. Equal respect for all parties representing the Albanian people. Respect for the friends and strategic allies of Albania. Albania above all else”, Begaj wrote.

37 Socialist MPs proposed Bajram Begaj as the ruling majority’s official presidential nominee.

Their signatures were gathered Saturday morning at a meeting called by PM Edi Rama and then sent to the Assembly, as stipulated by the law.
