President Ilir Meta has reacted following a statement made by former PM Sali Berisha regarding the decree for the new president-elect Bajram Begaj, which according to Berisha is invalid because it was signed outside of Albanian territory.

Meta’s briefing room claims that “PM Rama’s proposal and his request for the resignation of the General Commander was administered in Tirana and reviewed by the President’s staff at his headquarters, also in Tirana”.

On Saturday, president Meta signed a decree for Bajram Begaj from Istanbul, Turkey where he was on an official visit.

However, according to Meta’s briefing room, “a presidential decree can be adopted anywhere at any time, as a form of expressing the president’s will”.
