The chief of the Civil Emergency services in Albania said no ammunition exploded at the Sazan Island, adding that ground troops are working hard to extinguish the flames.
“Currently, the entire operation is concentrated in the southeastern part of the island, where there’s a higher vegetation density”, said Haki Cako on Monday for Now on Euronews Albania.
Cako noted that after two days, the situation is now under control, but added that there’s a need for aerial intervention.
According to him, aerial intervention is not imperative at the moment, but the current engines have limited water tanks.
The civil emergency chief said the Albanian defense minister is in a meeting with his Greek counterpart to discuss the situation.
Cako appealed to authorities for the need to enhance capacities as the matter cannot be resolved with a single helicopter or by raising awareness among citizens.
