Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic declared on Tuesday that the regional initiative Open Balkan does in no way substitute integration with the European Union.
According to Vucic, the Open Balkan brings many benefits to the countries of the region, reported Tanjug.
“Open Balkans is the best initiative in the last decades,” Vucic said.
“I came up with new proposals, to try to agree on how to help each other during the winter in terms of food, electricity balancing, gas, as well as how to build a gas hub in the future,” he told reporters.
On Tuesday, the leaders of Serbia, Albania, North Macedonia, and for the first time Montenegro, headed to Ohrid to attend an event in line with the Open Balkan.
On Wednesday a press conference is due, in addition to a ceremony to sign two memoranda of understanding and a multilateral agreement.
Until now, only three countries have joined the initiative, Albania, Serbia, and North Macedonia, while Kosovo, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina continue to remain skeptical.
