The Albanian Police arrested two people on Friday for allegedly smuggling migrants in the European Union.

The 60-year-old and 56-year-old men from Tirana were caught in the act in a hotel where they had temporarily sheltered 14 migrants.

The two were sheltering the migrants after asking for a down payment and then transporting them to the border crossing with Montenegro.

Another 23-year-old man was arrested on the same day in a separate case for helping 4 migrants cross the border.

The young man also had a criminal record for obstruction of a police officer.

The operation was carried out by the Section for Investigation of Illegal Trafficking in DVP Tirana, in cooperation with the Regional Directorate of Border and Migration Tirana, the Sector of Special Operations Force in DVP Tirana, and the Vora Police Commissariat.
