Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani will attend the high-level Conference on the Western Balkans in Brussels however, she expressed discouragement about any positive developments when it comes to abolishing the visa regime.
“I always go there [Brussels] feeling hopeful, but without a lot of expectations. Let’s hope it won’t be another disappointment”, said Osmani in an interview for Dutch media NRC.
The member countries of the Open Balkan, namely Albania, Serbia, and North Macedonia have warned about a possible boycott of this meeting amid continuous disappointment for the failure to launch accession talks with Tirana and Skopje.
The high-level Conference on the Western Balkans will take place on 23 June 2022 in Brussels, and coincides with the second day of the planned session of the European Council on 23-24 June.
Visa liberalization is one of the topics on the agenda. In four years, EU leaders have said twice that the country has fulfilled all criteria, but without taking further steps on lifting the visa regime and allowing Kosovo citizens to travel freely in the Schengen Area.
