Former Bulgarian Prime Minister, at the same time the leader of the opposition, Boyko Borisov, called on Prime Minister Kiril Petkov to put forward the French Presidency’s proposal in clearing the path for Albania and North Macedonia’s EU integration.
He reiterated that 59 MPs from his GERB party will vote in favor, reports Euronews Bulgaria.
“I have asked GERB parliamentarians, if they trust me, to support the proposal, if Petkov is afraid, 59 MPs will give the green light to North Macedonia and Albania”, Borisov said in a press conference from the party’s headquarters on Wednesday.
“As I promised, on Saturday we read the texts for negotiating framework of North Macedonia. I believe in Macron and the European Council, until now, everything good that’s happened to me, has been thanks to the EU”, Borisov was cited as saying.
EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, hailed the decision of Borisov as ‘historical’, adding that he expect the government to push forward in parliament.
