The amount of fuel entering Albania has fallen by 10,000 liters compared to last year, with a significant deterioration noted in March, when the price of oil exceeded the amount of 200 Lek per liter setting an all-time record.

The war in Ukraine seems to be the main factor, as in January and February imports were going up.

The drop in the first five months of the year is estimated at around 6%, while in May it skyrocketed to 18%.

Albania ranked 11 on the list of global oil prices, pushing consumers to find other means to avoid paying extensively high prices for transportation.

In addition to those opting for other transportation means, others are going to neighboring countries to fill up car tanks, with a difference per liter of around 100 Lek.

The Association of Hydrocarbons told Euronews Albania that gas stations are distributing less oil, while 6% of the stations have already faced closure.

According to the association, the fixed prices determined by the Board of Transparency have sent small gas stations toward bankruptcy.
