Bulgaria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to a declaration from Prime Minister Edi Rama who said on Thursday in Brussels that Bulgaria is keeping the path of Albania and North Macedonia to the EU hostage.
In a statement posted on Twitter, the Ministry held that Bulgaria has endorsed Albania’s European identity and its road to the EU, while it felt offended by the Prime Minister’s ‘repeated remarks’.
🇧🇬 has always supported Albania's #EU perspective. It is unacceptable for relations between our states to become hostage to the sharp language of individual politicians. 🇧🇬 & 🇦🇱 have a common future & we insist on maintaining a good tone of communication. https://t.co/rvy5ZPmNkE

In addition, it said this rhetoric is ‘unjustifiable’ while the Prime Minister should use a language adequate to a politician of an ‘EU candidate country’.
Among other things the statement read that it is ‘unacceptable’ that relations between the two countries are kept ‘hostage of the eccentricity of its current prime minister’.
Oh! Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry has an issue with my way of speaking!Fair enough.I have an issue too with the way Bulgaria wants to solve biletaral issues by using the enlargement process as e vehicle of kidnapping two NATO countries! Easy friends:Lift the VETO or bear with me!

Shortly after, Prime Minister Edi Rama responded to the Ministry’s statement and emphasized that he too sees it as a problem the way ‘Bulgaria wants to solve bilateral issues’.
