The Council on the Rules of Procedure, Mandates, and Immunities convened today to review e request submitted by Democrat MPs to remove the parliamentary mandate of Olta Xhacka.
Xhacka is accused of being involved in a conflict of interest after her husband was granted ‘strategic investor’ status.
The opposition claims her husband is behind one of the construction companies developing a 5-star resort on Dhermi beach.
Olta Xhacka entered the political scene after winning a seat in parliament in 2009.
In March 2017, Xhacka was appointed Minister of Social Welfare and Youth, a post she held for only 5 months.
Xhacka was then appointed Minister of Defense, and stayed in this post until last January, only to replace Gent Cakaj as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
