Dritan Abazovic’s administration no longer has the support of the Democratic Socialist Party (DPS) in Montenegro.
This was confirmed earlier today by an official of this political force, Jevto Erakovic, after a meeting of the party’s leadership group this Sunday, wrote RTCG.
The main party led by president Milo Dukanovic released a statement expressing their concerns about the change in Montenegro’s political course, as it relates to the adoption of the Fundamental Agreement with the Serbian Orthodox Church.
According to DPS, the agreement was voted without undergoing any prior consultation, and it bears numerous shortcomings, which have been publically identified by several critics on numerous occasions as well as by representatives of NGOs and numerous other political subjects.
On Friday, the Montenegrin government led by Dritan Abazovic adopted the Fundamental Agreement, which is meant to regulate relationships between Montenegro and the Serbian Orthodox Church.
13 ministers out of the 18 that were present, voted in favor of it, whereas 5 abstained.
Meanwhile, thousands of citizens gathered on Thursday evening in Podgorica to protest against this agreement.
Protestors held the national flag as well as EU flags, along with signs directed at Abazovic saying that he would “answer for his wrongdoings”.
