A 5-year-old boy has died today on the beach of Potam, in Himare, after being hit head-on by a speedboat steering too close to the shoreline.
The police said that the incident happened around 14:00 when the citizen A. T., driving a motor-type speedboat, allegedly lost control over the boat and as a result crashed into the 5-year-old child, who due to injuries died at the scene.
“The driver of the boat has been escorted to the Himara Police Station and the procedures for his arrest are being carried out as we speed”, the police reported.
This is the third time this summer that there have been incidents with speedboats on Albanian beaches.
In July, a couple was hit by an inflatable speedboat on the beach of Jala, as the boat tried to go ashore. As a result, the couple who was there on holiday, Agostin Sefa, 31 years old and E. GJ., 25 years old, received injuries.
2 days later another speedboat hit a 7-year-old child. The minor received serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for medical assistance.
