The spokesperson of the US Department of State, Ned Price, stated earlier today that one of the goals of the United States in the Western Balkans is to work with the governments of these countries to eradicate corruption.
According to him, sanctions are an important tool to fight corruption, said the statement posted by the US Department of State.
“So one of our goals when it comes to the Western Balkans is to work with governments and work with people to target, remove and root out corruption. And sanctions are an important tool to do this,” he said.
Price also spoke about foreign influences in the Western Balkans, saying it is a “dynamic region” that is attractive to the rest of the world, including China and Russia.
Yesterday, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on the State Prosecutor of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Diana Kajmakovic.
“Diana Kajmakovic is constantly undermining democracy and the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Brian Nelson, Under Secretary for Counterterrorism and Financial Intelligence at the US Department of the Treasury.
