The French writer Annie Ernaux won this year’s ‘Nobel’ prize in literature.

Euronews Albania was able to capture a real-time reaction from the renowned Albanian writer, Ismail Kadare, who watched the Nobel Prize ceremony, from one of the bars at Tirana’s Lake with his wife and friends.

Asked by Euronews Albania’s journalist whether he was disappointed that he couldn’t win this award, despite being nominated yet again, Kadare replied that he had no such feelings.

“As you can see, I have no thoughts. 40 years ago, I might have but not today,” said Kadare.

Meanwhile, his wife, Helena Kadare, said that they did not know the writer who won the Nobel Prize this year and that they had not even heard of her before the ceremony, even though they have been living in France for many years.

“We don’t know the writer who won the Nobel, even though we live in France. I’ve never heard her, to be sure, but I haven’t even heard her name before. As long as the Nobel jury is the same and has been saying no [to Kadare] for 40 years, you don’t have to change your opinion about them” said the writer, Helena Kadare.
