Lawyer Spartak Ngjela said during an interview for Euronews Albania that the head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, was banned from participating in the Congress of the European Socialist Party, as a result of collaborating with Sali Berisha.
“The fact is that they told him, since you are with Berisha, we don’t accept you. Berisha’s problem in the West is very big. He cannot enter the west. The DP is in dire need of a new scheme and Sali must allow it – that’s the only way it can come to power”, said Ngjela.
At noon on Thursday, an e-mail started circulating in the press claiming that the European Socialist Party had banned Ilir Meta from participating in the congress that is expected to take place in Berlin in mid-October.
The reaction of the Freedom Party was prompt, underlining that the news wasn’t true ad that Meta had never asked for an invitation nor did he send an email requesting to participate in the event.
