The main debate in today’s plenum revolved around tourism.
During the interpellation with the Minister of Tourism, the Democratic MP Ina Zhupa spoke about an unsuccessful tourist season, while also bringing up the fatal incident that took place in Himara, where a 7-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a speedboat.
According to Zhupa, after that event, Kumbaro had the “responsibility to resign and should have absolutely resigned”.
In turn, the minister responded by arguing that the quality offered to tourists this year was much higher. However, the Democratic MP argued that one cannot speak about the quality of service to tourists at a time when Albania didn’t even provide an internationally certified beach for the entire season.
Even at this point, the minister said that preparation for the next tourist season is already underway and very soon the allocation of beach plots will begin.
According to INSTAT, 5.6 million foreign travelers had entered Albania until August, marking an increase of up to 30% compared to last year.
