Edith Harxhi, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, commented on Prime Minister Edi Rama’s speech yesterday at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

In an interview for Euronews Albania, Harxhi said that what happened in Strasbourg was a diplomatic scandal, while emphasizing that this shouldn’t have happened at this time when Albania has opened negotiations with the EU.

“What happened yesterday in Strasbourg was a diplomatic scandal for me, which shouldn’t have happened to the Prime Minister of Albania at this moment that we have just opened negotiations and are also members of the Security Council, and especially at a moment when Kosovo has just hit its stride. It was a poorly written speech” – argued Harxhi.

She further highlighted that she does not know who Rama’s speech was addressed to yesterday.

“I don’t know who this speech was addressed to, who made this resolution and what happened in Kosovo after this resolution by Dick Marty. In order to approve the resolution of the Council of Europe, the confirmation of the government of Kosovo was obtained and at that time Thaci was prime minister. In all that has been achieved at that time, their confirmation has been obtained to take this step. We had nothing to hide, we were free for anyone to investigate on any sort of allusions, despite the fact that Dick Marty’s report was prepared by the Special Prosecutor for war crimes,” said Harxhi.

Harxhi also added that in his speech the head of the government never spoke about the Serbian genocide in Kosovo.

“What staggered me the most in Rama’s speech was that he didn’t talk about the Serbian genocide in Kosovo anywhere” – she concluded.
