The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Ilir Bejtja, says that Shell’s investment to extract oil in Shpirag is expected to be finalized in 2028.

In an interview for Euronews Albania, Bejtja said that the investment in Shpirag has a value of 600 million euros and uses the most advanced technology to extract oil from a depth of over 5 thousand meters.

“There have been intriguing results so far, but they’re not yet consolidated. Oil extraction is a difficult process. In the oil industry, it is the process of geological and seismic assessments that provides a more accurate picture of the subsurface. A considerable quantity of oil has started to be extracted, but it is not commercial. In 2028, it is expected that the oil will be fully commercial and we will reach Shell’s expectations to extract 100 thousand barrels per day”, said Bejtja.
