The former Democratic MP, Klevis Balliu, said in an interview for Euronews Albania that with the approval of the law on the opening of the former State Security files which were collected during the communist regime, the government would be bringing conflicts into Albanian families.

“There are those state associates who spied with intent and pleasure and there were those state associates who were forced to act a certain way or say a certain thing and even went to prison, because they only had one way to survive, and that was to let’s say spy on the friend next to him in the cell to increase his sentence, and that’s the truth. They want to do this nowadays and produce dangerous conflicts; it would be a major conflict, not a small one,” said Balliu.

The former MP proposed that this law be approved only for those people who want to run for a certain position. This attitude caused a debate in the studio of Euronews Albania, where journalist Sidorela Gjoni opposed Balli, explaining that the law approved on Thursday doesn’t allow for the opening of any files without strong legal reasoning.
