One of the lecturers participating in today’s protest, told Euronews Albania, that some of them had been pressured not to participate in today’s protest, which took place in front of the University Corpus.

He said that as soon as the protests started, meetings were announced with the sole purpose of calling on lecturers to not participate in the rallies.

“Participation is very high, if we consider the pressure, intimidation, the fear of not participating in the protest. We were under pressure not to participate but we are still here nonetheless.

Meetings after meetings have been announced, only to prevent people from coming to this protest. The union has not only made a request for wages. We want to increase the quality of teaching and have our needs met. The pressure and blackmail are absolutely unimaginable. We don’t only have an issue with our salary.

Everyone knows that we are protesting in order to raise the level of our universities. Teachers can’t make ends meet. We are not talking about the lecturers who have connections with ministers and politicians, but about the honorable pedagogues who do not put their hands in the pockets of Albanian citizens”, he said.
