“I am against the reopening of sports betting”. This is what former MP Ervin Bushati declared in an interview for Euronews Albania as he commented on the opening of online sports betting as of January 1, 2023.
The former MP further clarified that the law should be analyzed and according to him it is important that when the activity does start, that it is carefully controlled by the state.
“I myself have never played and I don’t understand what all the fun is for a person to play but I am absolutely not in the way of anything. It should be controlled by the government and the needy should be protected, such as low-income families. We have to look at the law. I am personally against it, but the question is how ready our state is to control it; the law should be carefully studied “, he said.
From January 1, 2023, online sports betting will reopen.
This was announced in the draft budget of 2023, which foresees the reintroduction of online sports betting into the legislation.
From the approval in law of gambling and “sports betting”, with effect from January 1, 2023, it is estimated that 2 billion ALL will be collected by the state budget in taxes per year.
