Prime Minister Edi Rama participated today in the “Night of Honor” in Jerusalem, where he underlined that Albania has been a friend of the Jews since their darkest times.

Rama said that the history of coexistence between Jews and Albanians did not start in the Second World War, but it is a history that has been the same throughout the centuries.

“It is important not to forget that the Jews in Albania were saved equally by both Christians and Muslims. Albanians, Christian or Muslim, risked their lives to save the Jews. This is our national pride, but even more so, it is a treasure of our national heritage. And we will do our best to keep him alive”, said Rama.

He underlined that in 7 years there have been very good relations between Albanians and Jews, while around the world, there’s been hate speech.

“In 7 years of relations between Albania and Israel, between Albanians and Jews, good things have happened. But unfortunately for the world, there have been 7 years of bitterness and complaints when it comes to the spread of anti-Semitism, violent extremism and hate speech and misinformation. We are here at this generous dinner offered by a man with a great soul, Alexander, and surrounded by Jewish friends. It is a fact that Albania is a friend of the Jewish community in their dark times”, said Rama.
