66.8% of Albanians think that there is no political division when it comes to lustration and both sides are equally affected. Asked by the Barometer in Euronews Albania, 10.1% of the respondents answered the Socialist majority and 8.9% the opposition.

Divided according to their political affiliation – of SP voters in 2021, 59.3% think that both parties are equally affected by a lustration, 20.1% think the opposition, and only 0.8% the majority. Meanwhile, of those who voted for DP in 2021, 57.3% are equally affected, 29.4% of the majority, and 4.7% of the opposition.

Albanians think that Albanian politics, even though 31 years have passed, has not been able to be cleansed of the people who were related to the former State Security. Asked if there are people in politics today who have been part of State Security, 78.2% of them answered ‘Yes’ and only 4.2% of them think that there are none.

Divided by age groups, among those who think that the political system is still ‘contaminated’ with former State Security collaborators, the 65-75 age group prevails with 81.1%, followed by the 35-44 age group; 80.7%, 55-64 years old; 80.4%, 25-34 years old; 79.3%, 45-54 years old; 76% and 18-24 years old with 70.4%.

While if we divide them by political affiliation, 86.7% of those who think that there is still ex-State Security in politics belonging to the DP and 72.4% belong to the SP.

The findings were collected from Euronews Albania’s Barometer in collaboration with MRB and Data Centrum, carried out during the period 9-21 September 2022, at a national level with 1000 face-to-face interviews.
