Berat is visited annually by tourists from all over the world.
In the 2,400-year-old city, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, cobbled streets are being restored, but local authorities are struggling to find stonemasons as many young people are leaving the country.
The youngest worker is 38-year-old Agron Kucuku, VOA reports.
He has been working with stones for more than 15 years.
Eugen Kallfani, architect and head of the city’s cultural heritage department, describes Berat as a “living outdoor museum” that is unique because of its stonework.
Road restoration work began in January, with a short break during the summer.
Work has now resumed and the project is expected to be completed in January 2023.
