European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says that the European Commission will approve a package worth 1 billion euros to help the countries of the Western Balkans during the energy crisis.
At the press conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Von der Leyen said that 500 million euros will be approved in December and will be given to 6 countries in January to support families in need and businesses.
Meanwhile, 500 million euros will be given for investments in the energy infrastructure.
“We are in an energy community and in the short term, we need to diversify energy sources. I am pleased to announce that the commission will provide a significant package of 1 billion euros for the region, the first part of 500 million euros is given in grants to 6 countries in the region to support families and businesses in need, it will be approved in December and set in January. The second part will be dedicated to investments in energy infrastructure, with a focus on gas and renewable energy. We invite the members of the Western Balkans to join us in supporting each other,” said Von der Leyen.
