Journalist Cim Peka says that any regular candidate could be able to defeat the current mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj in the upcoming local elections on May 14.

In an interview for Euronews Albania, Peka said that Veliaj has never won a race alone and May 14 is set to be his first real race.

“He was once in alliance with LSI and defeated Dr. Halim Kosova in 2015. In 2019, he ran alone. This is Veliaj’s first race as a ‘notary’ of Rama’s decisions. He is a worn-out political figure”, said Peka.

While commenting on the candidates of DP’s primaries for Tirana’s municipality, Peka said that the current candidates, even though they may come from civil society, such as the case of the doctor Ilir Alimehmeti, are essentially all politicians, as they have all had early connections with the DP.
