Each home and business will have a unique code. This is the proposal that comes from the Ministry of the Interior in the draft law for a change in the address system in Albania.

According to this new address system proposal, the unique code is added to the 8 elements that have worked so far, the name of the municipality, that of the administrative unit, the name of the city or village, the boulevard or street, the ordinal number of the building and the entrance as well as the postal code .

According to the proponents, this code is aimed at facilitating the memorization of the address for citizens and creating the opportunity for occasional access to the unique state document, i.e. the National Register of Addresses, which contains the constituent elements of the address.

Also, the unique code is needed to have a minimized value of information exchange between national databases.

The method of creation as well as the detailed technical description of the Unique Code will be determined by the Decision of the Council of Ministers. The document is still in the consultation phase and it is expected that at the beginning of the new year it will be forwarded to Parliament and then enter into force.
