Number of births falls, over 1,500 fewer babies in the third trimester

The birthrate in our country is shrinking considerably. The bonus that the government has offered for babies does not seem to have enticed citizens to increase the number of new members in their families.

According to INSTAT data, births in the third quarter of 2022 were 6,172, marking a decrease of 19.6%, compared to the third quarter of 2021.

In the third quarter of 2022, the district with the highest natural increase is Tirana, with 928 more births than deaths, while the district with the lowest natural increase is Korça, with 139 more deaths than births.

In the third quarter of 2022, all regions of the country recorded a decrease in the number of births, compared to the third quarter of 2021.

In the third quarter of 2022, the district with the highest number of births is Tirana with 2,172 births, while the district with the lowest number is Gjirokastra with 90 births.

The smallest drop in the percentage of births during the third quarter of 2022, compared to the same period of 2021, is in the district of Berat with 8.7%, while the biggest drop is the district of Korça with 28.7%.

The number of deaths for the third quarter of 2022 is 5,130, marking a decrease of 19.8%, compared to the third quarter of 2021. The natural increase of the population in the third quarter of 2022 shows that there are 1,042 more births than deaths.
