For the first time in the last 27 years, a German president will visit Albania.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier will arrive in Albania on the morning of December 1 and will stay for a two-day visit.

According to the agenda published by the German presidency, at 10:00, Steinmeier will be received in the presidency by the head of the Albanian state, Bajram Begaj.

Then, for about 30 minutes, the two presidents will have a joint conference for the media.

At 11:30, the German president will address the plenary session, where he will deliver a welcoming speech.

Afterwards, the Federal President of Germany is expected to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Rama.

On the agenda, Frank-Walter Steinmeier has also planned a meeting with students from Albania and other countries of the Western Balkans, in a discussion on dealing with the communist past and a visit to a German company.

During his two-day stay in Albania, Steinmeier will pay a visit to Berat and a visit to the “House of Leaves” Security Museum.

The visit of the German president, Steinmeier, comes just 5 days before the EU-Western Balkans summit that will be held in Tirana for the first time.

In addition, the visit comes as part of a 4-day tour that Steinmaier is conducting in Albania and North Macedonia, two countries that this year opened negotiations for membership in the European Union.
