The MP of the Socialist Party, Petro Koçi, sees the decision of the Democratic Party and the opposition as a whole to protest on December 6, the same day when the EU-Western Balkans Summit will be held in Tirana, as a wrong step.
In an interview for Euronews Albania, Koçi said that Berisha may have been emotional when he made this decision.
According to him, with the protest, Berisha wants to show that he commands the Democratic Party and thinks that this is also related to the decision that the court is expected to give regarding the fate of this party.
Koci underlined that the majority in the DP supports Berisha. He added that the patriotism spirit is very strong in this political force.
“I think it’s a very wrong step by the opposition, because December 6 is a very important date not only for Albanian politics, but for EU relations with the Western Balkans, and the election of Tirana is a very significant thing. In relation to European integration, Albania must prove that it has national unity. I think he must have been very emotional at first when he made the decision. I have noticed a kind of dialectic, with the passing of days, also due to the internal mistrust in DP, different figures I believe have reacted.
