The fact that the EU-Western Balkans Summit is being held in the region for the first time is a strong signal of rapprochement, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said on the occasion of tomorrow’s meeting in Tirana.
Nehamer, who will participate in the summit, expressed the hope that during this month an additional strong signal will be sent by granting candidate status to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
“The approach and close connection with the countries of the Western Balkans is historically significant for Austria. It is also important for the security of all of Europe. “Especially in the fight against illegal migration and organized crime, we must further strengthen our cooperation,” he said.
The summit in Tirana is the first of its kind to be held in the region. The main topic will be how to jointly overcome the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the EU enlargement process, the strengthening of security, but also the fight against illegal migration.
The heads of state and government of the EU member states, as well as the countries of the Western Balkans, will participate in the Summit.
