A 28-year-old man from Kosovo has died mysteriously in a prison in Serbia.

According to his uncle, the reason why his nephew was arrested at the Kosovo-Serbia border was the national flag tattoos on his body.

For news outlet Telegrafi, he added that he believes that Artan lost his life after continuous torture that was done to him by Serbian prison guards while serving his sentence, as well as after the fire that engulfed the prison he was in on November 21, 2022.

Nagipi also added that he has an audio registration made by a prisoner, who, according to him, recounts the torture that the Serbian guards carried out in prison against Artan.

The Serbian Ministry of Justice told Radio Free Europe that Artan Zymberi, a Norwegian citizen from Kosovo, who died in a prison in Serbia on November 27, “refused to be treated for an illness he had.”

The media in Kosovo, in recent days, have reported that family members of the deceased have expressed doubts that Zymberi may have been killed just because of some tattoos on his body, such as those with the figure of Adem Jashari – killed by Serbian forces during war in Kosovo in 1998 – the double-headed eagle and the emblem of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

The Serbian Ministry of Justice also announced that from February 3 of this year, Zymberi had been serving a prison sentence in Sremska Mitrovica, with a duration of three years and eight months, for the criminal offense of unauthorized production and distribution of narcotics.
