The former prime minister of Italy and the former president of the European Commission, Romando Prodi, in an exclusive interview for euronews albania, spoke about the corruption scandal in the European Parliament.

Prodi also commented on the EU enlargement process, saying that the integration of the Western Balkan countries should not continue to drag on.

The former president of the European Commission and the former prime minister of Italy, Romano Prodi, commented for Euronews Albania on the latest developments in the European Parliament, where the former vice president, Eva Kaili and several other MEP-s have been accused of corruption.

“It makes me very sad. I don’t have much recent information, because I have been disconnected for years, but it is suffering for Europe. I hope that everything becomes transparent and comes to light, because otherwise how will Albania trust the EU. If it reacts as it does in a democracy, this case can become an element of unification, since corruption is a problem and a risk for every democracy in the world,” – said Prodi.

In the exclusive interview for euronews albania, Prodi also spoke about the EU enlargement process, undermining that the countries of the Western Balkans should join as soon as possible and that the process should not continue to drag on.

“If you want to know my opinion, I’m very angry. Because such historical decisions should be taken quickly and the message that there is a friendship between the two parties should be given and then move forward. When I was in charge of the EC, we expanded the EU by 10 countries at once. There were countries who were not at the same level of progress, but the history told us that if we did not act at that moment, Europe would go worse,’ – added Prodi.
