Economy expert Igli Tola has been critical of our country’s authorities, saying that they are not acting properly in relation to product prices.

In an interview for Euronews Albania, he raised suspicions that politics has interfered with the Competition Authority, the Bank of Albania, and the AMF.

He said, among other things, that at the moment when all leaders are appointed by the government and those in power, then the possibility for these institutions to act and penalize abusive operators becomes very difficult.

“If the administration would like to do their job, this is the moment to make the necessary changes. Each of us sees that abroad, prices are the same as the changes reflected in the stock exchange, whereas here they are more expensive. This then goes to show that we are abusing. Wherever there is abuse, it becomes the task of the Competition Authority. We also have the AMF and it seems as if it is not acting at all. We also have the Central Bank, which seems to have been put under the dictates of government and those in power. When all the leaders are appointed by the government and those in power, then the possibility that these institutions act and penalize abusive operators becomes very difficult. The moment politics enters directly into these authorities, the possibility for them to operate also becomes difficult,” he emphasized.
