The German diplomat, Wolfgang Ischinger, has reacted to the prime minister of Serbia, Ana Bernabic, regarding the barricades and tensions in the north of Kosovo.

Ischinger said on Saturday that he is very worried about the ongoing tensions in the north and that the European Union must urgently take a decisive role, writes REL.

Groups of Serbian citizens in the north of Kosovo erected barricades as early as December 10, to oppose the arrest of a former Serbian police officer by the Kosovo Police.

The German diplomat asked in a post on Twitter whether Serbia was informed that inciting violence against a neighboring country, in this case, Kosovo will make it impossible for them to continue the process towards EU membership.

Brnabic also reacted to Ischinger’s post.

She said that Serbs in the north are standing at the barricades because they are demanding the implementation of the Brussels Agreement, the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian majority, and because of the arrest “at will and holding hostage” of the former Serbian policeman, Dejan Pantic.

However, Ischinger told Brnabic that “issues are not resolved by inciting violence”.

“There are legitimate demands from both sides, actually. What is wrong is addressing such concerns by inciting violence and public unrest. Serbia knows exactly how to act as a responsible power! Christmas means peace”, he wrote.
