The last days of the year, in addition to the festive atmosphere, also bring with them problems regarding the situation with law and order, mainly when it comes to road traffic.
Based on this situation, the police have increased measures and controls to prevent accidents and other serious incidents.
In the last 7 days alone, a total of 581 driving licenses have been suspended, of which: 472 for speeding over the permitted rates, 42 for driving under the influence of alcohol or in a drunken state, and 66 for other violations of the Highway Code.
As a result of selective controls, 34 drivers were arrested, of then: 26 for driving while intoxicated and 8 for driving without a driver’s license.
In addition, to prevent incidents on New Year’s Eve, the police have seized significant amounts of fireworks. During this week, 16 police operations were completed, 135 citizens were handcuffed and 6 others were arrested.
