The Albanian government recently decided to lift the ban on betting in order to revive the industry and thus have it contribute to the overall public budget.
The discussion on Euronews Albania regarding the lift of the ban on betting turned into a heated debate between the head of KOKSH, Fidel Ylli, and MP Luan Baci.
The president of KOKSH stated that vices cannot be regulated by the law, as even the communist regime could not do such a thing.
On the other hand, MP Baci argued that the activities that are permissible in Europe should be allowed in Albania as well, but the implementation should be in accordance with the law.

Fidel Ylli: Will they beat Edi Rama with this kind of politics?!
Luan Baci: Why? Because you decided to make some noise all of a sudden?
Fidel Ylli: I have spoken up!
Luan Baci: Why are you only speaking up after 4 years?
Fidel Ylli: I’ve always said that you should conduct a study, as the entire world does. My question is, what would be better to open them or allow them to operate in the black market?
Luan Baci: Do you really think that there are these powerful people who keep them open? The police keep them open, and the chiefs of the police stations, who are all involved and with the permission of Edi Rama too.
Fidel Ylli: Enver Hoxha would hang you right in the middle of the Bazaar, and they still continued to play right at the city center even during the communist regime. Enver Hoxha couldn’t close them, you really think Edi Rama will be able to? Vices can’t be obliterated by the law!
Luan Baci: I am personally in favor of allowing any activity that is implemented in Europe, but being in complete accordance with the law.
